A wine village

Ora in South Tyrol

When prime locations, a mild climate, and fertile soils come together, a place is perfectly suited to viticulture. Ora, in the south of South Tyrol, is one such wine-growing village, offering us everything we need to produce great wine.

Prime vineyard sites

Prime vineyard sites

Our vineyards are located in the upper village of Ora in southern South Tyrol. Close to the border with Trentino, this area benefits from a particularly mild, Mediterranean climate. Situated on the eastern side of the South Tyrolean Lowlands, Ora on the Wine Road enjoys long hours of evening sun.

Climate & soil

Climate & soil

Our vineyards thrive on fertile, mineral-rich soils. The porphyry rock of Kiechlberg and nearby Castelfeder — a magical, ancient cultural site — stores warmth during the day and releases it to the vineyards during cool nights. At the same time, fresh breezes flow from the Schwarzenbach stream behind our sites. This interplay allows late harvesting of ripe grapes with moderate sugar levels and balanced acidity — the ideal foundation for characterful, elegant and finely structured wines.

Our Grape Varieties

Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc is a refined international grape variety that expresses itself beautifully in South Tyrol’s climate. We use it to produce medium-bodied wines with fresh fruit aromas and a subtle herbal touch. Thanks to its original character and balanced acidity, Cabernet Franc offers understated complexity and elegant freshness.

Lagrein

Lagrein

Lagrein is one of South Tyrol’s oldest native grape varieties and thrives especially in the warm, lean soils of the Bolzano valley floor and the South Tyrolean Lowlands. This indigenous grape is admired for its deep violet color and spicy aromas. A beloved classic and a flagship of South Tyrolean wine, Lagrein also plays a key role at our winery, accounting for around 40 percent of our production.

Merlot

Merlot

Merlot has established an important place in South Tyrol and feels particularly at home in our mild regional climate. With its full-bodied, aromatic, fruity and spicy profile, it is appreciated around the world. Thanks to its versatility, Merlot can be enjoyed as a varietal wine or in cuvées. For us, it is an especially valuable grape variety, representing about 15 percent of our production.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world’s most renowned grape varieties and also finds ideal growing conditions here in South Tyrol. Its powerful, age-worthy wines impress with fresh aromas, spice notes and a fine oak character. With its outstanding structure and quality, it is perfectly suited to maturation and reveals its full potential with extended aging.
