Our Waldthaler winery in Ora combines tradition, innovation, and family history. For decades, it has been our greatest pride and the result of our shared passion. We produce elegant, understated wines and focus on quality and character.
Lorenz Waldthaler
“Love for wine has been part of my life since childhood. Today, I cultivate and manage Weingut Waldthaler in the eighth generation. After studying viticulture and oenology in San Michele all’Adige, Udine and Geisenheim, I completed an internship in New Zealand. When I returned, I joined the family winery with enthusiasm, supporting my father Clemens with expertise and creativity. Since 2023, I have been managing the estate independently, continuing my family’s tradition while creating new wines.”

“Even as a young boy, I loved helping at my family’s winery. After studying at the wine school in San Michele all’Adige, I developed my knowledge and expertise. Over the years, I deepened my passion for wine, experimented and created new lines. After gaining experience in Germany, I took over the estate from my father Reinhold in 1986 and managed it until 2023. Today, I support my son Lorenz as an advisor, contributing my experience and quality philosophy.”

The first members of the Waldthaler family settle in Ora.
Birth of RAUT
Clemens develops his quality philosophy and the idea for the RAUT wine line.
Expansion of the winery
The first barrique barrels are acquired and new plantings with selected clones are trained on trellis systems.
First generational handover
Clemens takes over the winery from his father Reinhold.
RAUT trademark registration
The RAUT line becomes the winery’s signature with its official trademark registration.
Renovation and expansion
The wine cellar is rebuilt and new pressing and bottling equipment is acquired.
A new approach to winemaking
First experiments with amphorae and base wines for sparkling wine in close collaboration with Josef Reiterer of Arunda.
Red wine vinification
The first amphora and the first concrete vats are purchased.
Second generational handover
Lorenz takes over the winery from his father Clemens.

We pay attention to every stage of production, controlled fermentation and careful quality checks. We do not bend with trends. We preserve tradition while allowing innovative ideas to enrich it. Our wines are our pride — a passion we are always happy to share over a good glass of wine.

From April to October, we offer guided tours every Friday by appointment. During the week, we are available during our opening hours. Individual requests are welcome in advance.
